Fitness Benefits of Kayaking

If you are looking for a way to get into shape, consider paddling your way to fitness on a kayak. The benefits of kayaking include core conditioning, increased aerobic capacity, and weight loss. Along with physical benefits of kayaking, getting out on the water is also a great way to de-stress and meet new friends! If you don’t already have a kayak, there are a variety from which to choose. Available models include sit-on-top, sit inside, and inflatable kayaks. For some paddlers, the hardest part of kayaking is lifting their boat on to the roof rack of their car. Special hoisting systems make this easy. And to get your kayak from your car to the beach, you can use a kayak cart like what you see here. Of course, for any one-the-water activity, it is important to make safety a priority. So besides your kayak, you will need a paddlesports life jacket, one that won’t inhibit your paddling range of motion. Other items to consider are a small first aid kit and if you will be out of shouting distance from shore, a handheld VHF radio is important to have, in case you need to call for help. You will find more suggestions on the gear you’ll need in our Beginners Guide to Kayaking.
